Knitting is a metaphor for society. Each loop is dependent upon the other. I used yarn bombing installations to add visual interest to a difficult intersection or corner of Chicago. Bringing positive energy where there has been negative. Yarn is warming and comforting. It is also a benign form of graffitti in that it may be easily removed after a period of time. The projects were also designed to bring about community interaction, to bring neighbors together through the shared act of knitting, crocheting, learning new skills and telling stories. Strangers became neighbors.
